The image i am choosing to critique is the second one with the soldiers. I like how this photo you can see it is a celebration but within that, there are a whole lot of different expressions from the boys. The two in the back are happy and celebrating with one another about their achievement but the boy in the main focus area is concerned. I feel like he is concerned about what this now means, how this is going to be his life now.
The photo shows a group of young boys celebrating some achievement with each having their own American flag. These American flags are symbolic of our military or the boy scouts franchise. The focal point of this piece is the boy on the far right in front of all the others. If you look at the photo head on there is a triangle between the two boys and him. This helps to lead the eye around the piece and look at the whole photo. The image being in grayscale adds a tone to the piece. Like this was a dark time for the nation but in this moment there was happiness. Each boy gets a kind of frame because of the flag that they are holding and the person next to them. The whole photo is in focus and all the details are there. This makes it seem like they are all important because they are all in focus with him but the one boy is who he wanted to capture so that is why he is the focal point. There is a good contrast of negative space with some being white and the other gray. This gives your eye the chance to take a break and find other details in the work.
